Even better than the bells, a door bell for the dogs. Pebble Smart makes one with a built in treat holder for training. The Pet Chime is a cute paw, you can place one outside and one inside if you have a fenced yard.
Bell training is great and very effective if you take a little extra time and steps during the training period. Doodles are very intelligent and they quickly learn that giving the signal with the bells or doorbell to go outside works just as well for playtime as it does for potty time. During the first week, only tap the bells to go out for potty – and that’s all you do while you’re outside. No play, not petting – potty and back inside. Wait a minute or two and go back out NO BELLS (a separate door is even better) and this time begin play immediately. It won’t take them long to figure out that BELL equals potty only. Everyone in the house needs to be consistent.
Oh my, how quickly they grow….
