It’s important to know the signs of Lyme disease, in case your dog contracts it. Early detection and treatment are important factors in how rapidly your dog recovers and preventing lingering side effects. Prevention is key, some flea control products will kill and repel ticks. Vaccinations are available to prevent lyme disease. Brush your dog after walks or playtime in tall grass looking for ticks. If you pull an engorged tick off and the head remains embedded, simple apply antibiotic ointment. I’ve included photos, from www.tickinfo.com, to show the difference in the deer tick and the brown dog tick as it engorges.
