Why Brush Teeth?
Brushing removes the daily accumulation of plaque from your dog’s teeth. This helps in the prevention of periodontal disease.
Getting Ready
Select a dog appropriate tooth brush; even the softest human brushes are too hard. For young puppies an “over the finger” style works best. The first two days a piece of gauze is easiest. Next, select toothpaste for dogs – he won’t like yours.
Let’s Brush!
A good way to begin with a puppy is to hold the puppy’s head while slowly rubbing his teeth with dry gauze. After a couple of days introduce a wet brush. Again allow a two day transition before adding the toothpaste.
Pay close attention to the outside of the upper teeth. Brush teeth in an oval motion – 10 quick brushes in an area are sufficient.
